It sounds crazy, but people have been doing it for years, in particular, for Indian scalp massages. The mustard oil is able to penetrate the hair shaft to moisturize and repair any damage that may be there. Because of the nutrients, such as calcium, magnesium, zinc and beta carotene, the mustard oil prevents breakage and promotes hair growth.

You want to put the oil on dry hair and massage it into the scalp. After that, you put on a shower cap and let it sit for about three hours. Shampoo it out and then proceed with how you normally condition and style your hair.

Personally, I only do it once a week, but there is no maximum amount of times you can do it a week. If you don't have many nights where you can dedicate three hours, you can put the oil in, put on a shower cap and use a blow dryer to speed up the process with heat.

One word of warning, if you are applying the oil on your hair over your tub or sink, rinse out the oil that spilled over as soon as you can. You don't want the yellow from the oil to stain.

Hi Sugarhill, thanks for the tips. Do you have any tips of hair-fallout? I know people say it's stress, but my hair keeps falling out every so often. It's a good thing that I have thick curls! However, I'm beginning to worry a lot because when I wash my hair, there is a huge lump of hair falling out especially when I put the conditioner on. Even when I run my fingers through my hair, there will be a few strands in my hand. I hope you have some tips for this. Thanks!

I would need to know a little bit more about what you do to your hair on a regular basis. How often do you wash your hair? How often do you brush and comb your hair? Is it really a large lump of hair or is the natural shedding that your hair does on a daily basis? It sounds like you could actually have a lot of breakage, but then you could also just be a little anxious about seeing hair in your tub.

Can you provide a few more details as to what is going on?

Hi Sugarhill, thanks for getting back to me.

I wash my hair every 2 to 3 days, especially if I'm at home most of the time. I brush my hair every day, after shower in the morning and once before I go to bed. I normally tied my hair when I'm at home. I have natural wavy hair and it's quite thick. I must admit it is alarming because it is a large lump of hair - when I wash my hair and I put on the conditioner, I would run my hand through my hair to smooth out the conditioner and I would have a lump of hair in my hand. Also, all over my body when I wash my hair. When I brush my hair, there's a lump of hair in the brush. Every time, I tie my hair up, there are a few that fall out. It's worrying and even my fiancé is getting worried. I'm actually surprised that I'm not bald already!

I'm also experiencing a lot of hair fall now, which is also causing me some concern. I have straight hair and wash it every day. If I don't wash it, my scalp and hair become very oily. I find that the next day, there is even more hair fall (if I don't wash my hair the day before). Will the mustard oil help still or should it be something different? I'm thinking of changing my shampoo.
