• 10 tips to get you moving and working out!

So, you’re extremely motivated, love working out, fit and you’re just about to go on a run. Really? Than this post isn’t for you, this post is about lazy people, people who can’t find motivation to get out there and workout, if you want to be fit, but just can’t, this post’s for you.

    1. Tell everyone you're going to get in shape, by telling everyone you're trying to get in shape and that you will get in shape, you're commiting yourself to it, you'll be scared to look stupid and you'll try harder to lose the extra pounds.

    2. Take the stairs, always stairs, even if there is an elevator, even if it’s hard, it’s really worth it, calories stack up.

    3. Get as much exercise as possible, and do it EVERYDAY, if you miss even a single day, you might miss the next, thinking, it’s just one day. (except if you’re injured!) You deprive yourself of Dopamine, meaning you’re less likely to keep working out regulary with each day you miss, make it a regular thing, a routine that has to be followed.

    4. Do something you love, do it because you love, convince yourself that you love it if you must. If you do it and you suffer, it's work, you're not getting paid, you'll stop showing up.

    5. You’re probably sitting there, thinking, “If I don’t workout, I’ll be fat, I should go workout.” This is very wrong, you mustn’t say “If I don’t, I’ll be fat” It makes it seem like you’re threatning yourself. “I should” The word should implies it’s work and it ain’t fun, you must convince youself it’s fun, drown yourself in positivety, by talking like that, you’re making it harder. Try saying “I can’t wait to go to the gym so I’ll be one step closer to a sexy body” or “The gym is so much fun, progress is slow, but real!”

    6. Don't eat chocolate, it's addictive, unless you can portion control, don't even start. If you start eating and you eat too much, you'll feel guilty, which is like saying I give up, I'm going to stay fat

    7. Replace unhealthy with healthy, instead of chocolate, try an apple, sweet and healthy! Instead of a strawberry yogurt, try some strawberries in a lowfat yogurt.

    8. Try eating 6~5 meals everyday, it'll jumpstart your metabolism and help you do physical activity better. Your runs will be fueled better and you won't feel as heavy.

    9. Plan your workout, you'll be more likely to do it if you plan it and write it on paper.

    10. Think of the end result, think about it positively, you'll have an awesome body, you'll finish that race, you'll have bragging rights. Anything you can think of!

I can't believe there are no comments on here yet.

You're right - a person has to stick with it in order to see results. Even little changes can make a big difference over time. It is not advisable to go into a full-blown exercise routine all at once, as you won't be able to move for a day or two because you overworked muscles and joints. Start with things like taking the stairs, parking at the far end of the parking lot, walking to do your errands instead of driving to each place you have to go (within walking distance of course) and even riding your bike.

Changing eating habits is also a good way to lose weight. As you said, swap the chocolate for fruit or add fresh fruit to a low-fat yogurt. And, drink more water! Most people don't drink the amount of water they should, which leads to our bodies thinking it should retain it to prevent dehydration. When we supply our bodies with the right amount every day, it will allow for more to be eliminated. Plus, drinking water flushes out our kidneys so they perform better.

It is a combination of all the little changes we make that makes a difference. If you get to the point of a regular gym workout, that's great. The reality is that for many people going to a gym isn't feasible or even possible. I find working outside in the garden or with the animals to be a better workout than any gym equipment.

What a great article. Your article is very inspiring. Yes I agree with you, Don't let one day kill your confidence and progress. I love tip number 1, tell everyone. Good point. If you tell people they will be following up to make sure you do it. You will look like you are not motivated if you do not do your walking. No one want to think someone is thinking of them in a non-motivated light. Good point.

One tip is to start small by doing baby steps. Once you get started keep going until you reach your goal.

These are some great tips. #9 and #10 will always keep me going and have me visualize the end result other than the 'pain and suffering' currently.
