• Spring Cleaning Tips

Here are some of my spring cleaning tips in the kitchen:

Spring cleaning tips #1- To clean food spills in oven, sprinkle the spills immediately with salt. When the oven has cooled, wipe away the burnt-on food with a damp sponge.

Spring cleaning tips #2-To disinfect a smelly sponge, wash sponge thoroughly, then microwave it while it is wet. When you see steam rise from the sponge, the bacteria in the sponge will be dead. Take care when removing it, it will be hot.

Spring cleaning tips #3- To remove hard-water and lime build-up in a teapot or kettle, pour in two cups of vinegar and bring to the boil. Simmer for about 10 minutes, then rinse well.

Spring cleaning tips #4-To remove skid marks on vinyl flooring, rub the spot with toothpaste before washing the floor.

Spring cleaning tips #5-To remove black mould stains from the seal of a fridge door, rub with white toothpaste.

Spring cleaning tips #6-To keep your plastic food containers from getting stained from tomato based foods, rub vegetable oil inside before placing the food in the container.

I usually wet the walls and soak the toilet with soap and chlorine, letting it stand there for about 30 minutes before starting to scrub them. Like clothes, the mildews/dirt/etc is being "softened". Then I have to make sure, baking soda is mixed in the soap/chlorine mixture I use for cleaning. Lysol works best for me for the toilet bowl too!

Another great spring cleaning tip is to save all of your old toothbrushes to clean in between the faucet handles. It makes it much easier to clean in the nooks and crannies. You can put more pressure on the areas due to the handle acting as a lever.

Great spring cleaning tips! I love bathroom cleaning tips because it's a dreadful job. Cleaning the bathroom is never a fun thing, but I love using clorox or bleach to clean the bathroom mainly because it reduces stain quite easily. I think I clean my bathroom everyday with clorox because you never know what germs are partying on the toilet seat. The same goes with the bathtub and the sink. All has to be cleaned up for me to feel comfortable. Again thanks for the tip. It's always good to learn more from someone else!

Amazing spring cleaning tips - everyone who's posted above this message!

The one (kinda) tip I heard is that it's never too soon to start cleaning your bathroom.

Recently moved into my own place, and housemates find it odd that I'm taking care of a relatively new bathroom. But my dad always said you can't start too soon, and my shiny bathroom is a testament to that.

What are some spring cleaning tips for other rooms in the house?

My method in cleaning my bathroom.
      1) wipe down the sink and mirror
      2)clean my tube
      3) clean the toilet keeping substance sitting in toilet for fresh scent
5)mop floor(sweep if needed) all water that came from the sink, toilet and tube can be wiped up as you are cleaning the floor.

I hate using a bunch of chemicals in my house, so I always try to clean naturally when possible. However, most "natural" cleaning products in stores are quite expensive. Because of this I learned how to make my own.

All you need to wipe down sinks, showers, and get rid of mildew you probably already have in your house.
Just take an empty spray bottle and fill it 3/4 with vinegar, and the res with baking soda.
Spray in your shower, especially on mildew areas, then come back in about 10 minutes and wipe it clean.

      It's as easy as that!

That is such a simple tip and using what I would have at home. Thanks for such a simple and doable tip. I will try this the next time I'm cleaning my bathrooms. Is it okay to use baking powder instead of baking soda?

Who would have thought that these items could be use to clean your house - thanks for the tips and for sharing, OP. I would make use of these tips. One other thing you can use if lime and warm water. I think it was my late mother's friend that introduced this tip to us - take two limes, squeeze the juice out, and mix it with warm water - about half a cup. Pour them all over the shower room or toilet, and leave it for 15 - 20 minutes, and then scrub with thick/durable sponge.

Brilliant thread - thanks for the spring cleaning tips. I must admit that bathroom is the last room/place I clean because I need a lot of time for it. Also, I like to make sure it is very clean, so I would take my time and prepare the items that I need to use ahead of time. IF I was in a hurry, I would use Jik or Mr. Muscle and pour a few drop here and then in the bathroom, leave it for fifteen minutes or so, and then I started scrubbing and cleaning the bathroom. It would not be as clean as it would if I had spent more time, but it would do for a short period.

Turn cleaning the bathroom into part of your normal routine. Doing a little bit often makes it much less of a headache. To cut down on the cleaning time in general, do some cleaning while using the bath or shower. For example, clean over the shower with a shower cleaner, let it sit for the recommended time, then jump in to wipe the walls down and have your shower at the same time. A quick wipe over the filmy bath ring before you exit the bath tub also helps save time on cleaning.

Awesome tips man. It's definitely a fantastic guide! I use one very similar. I should definitely put everything in my bucket because I always have to go looking for everything lol. Unfortunately, my bathroom looks pretty dirty right now. I have to clean it! :(

Great tips! Whenever my sponges get dirty, I usually just toss them in the garbage. I'll try microwaving them instead.
