Help Your Home Schooled Student Like to Read Tip

Some children love to read, but some do not. This is the case, whether they are in public school or home school.

In a home schooling environment, you are the teacher, therefore you can choose what they read. It has been my experience that if they do not like to read you can help this situation by letting them read about things they are interested in, however I believe it is also necessary for them to read some of the classics.

In our home school, my son did not like to read and his interests were in hunting and fishing. I subscribed to Outdoor Life, Field & Stream and Reader's Digest. These magazines had very interesting, useful stories for him, and of course, they were written by authors with great language skills.

Re: Help Your Home Schooled Student Like to Read Tip

When I was little, I remember that what got me into reading was my mom reading me story books (when I wasn't able to read yet). She exposed me to how wonderful books can be. I started to read and write much earlier than others because I wanted to read on my own. My parents would usually leave me in a book store where I can spend hours reading books since we didn't have much money to afford all the books that I want. So I guess it's all about guidance and motivation, and finding out what interests the person most and encouraging it. I also find myself wanting to read if the teacher's particularly entertaining and interesting.
