Tips for taking better pictures! Part 1
As a professional photographer I will begin by making a series of posts on tips, tricks, and general advice on how to get more out of your new digital camera.
1. Stand back; zoom in. When taking pictures of people, using a longer focal length will compress the 3D features of the face, making it more flattering. This is why taking pictures of yourself with the camera at arms length tends not to work so well.
2. Lighting is everything. Rather than turn your flash on, try increasing the "ISO" rating (which is a measure of sensitivity to light - the higher the ISO, the more sensitive - and the less light you need). The problem with high ISO is the image might be noisy. But with newer technology and better noise reduction software, you'll be able to use ambient light much more effectively.
