Tip to prevent the smell of tobacco
The smell of stale tobacco is very unpleasant. If you have smokers in your home this is a great way to prevent that smell spreading through your house.
Mix some fine sand with dried lavender then place a layer of this mixture in the ashtrays. Until the ashtrays are used youwill enjoy the subtle smell of the lavender. During use, the sand and lavender mix will absorb the smell.
Empty the ashtray once your smoking guest has left or your smoking resident has gone out/gone to bed . . . and replenish with a freshlayer of the sand and dried lavender mix.
You can make this mix up in bulk - just remember to store it in an airtight container and in the dark.

Thanks for the tip for how to deal with the smell of smoke. I am a smoker and my is not, but I smoke outside. Believe it or not I hate the smell of smoke in the house and I smoke a pack a day. When we have visitors we break out the ashtrays. I am going to try your tip. I usually light candles when people are smoking in my house. Thanks for the tip.

That's a good tip, and the sand will ensure that the cigarette is fully extinguished, rather than smouldering away and adding to the smoky smell. If you've had a lot of guests smoking in the house, and you get up to the stale smell of tobacco, boil some orange peel and a few cloves in some water in a large saucepan for about 10 minutes. It will neutralise the smoke smell, and give the house a fresh, natural smell. This is also good if you've had a curry the night before and the house is still smelling next day.

Thanks for this tip. The only other thing that I would suggest is that if you are trying to remove smoke odors from a room or your house...repaint using a stain blocker and add a few drops of vanilla into your paint. This will seal odors into the drywall, keeping the smell from permeating your home...and add a touch of air freshener to every wall in your house. The vanilla will help neutralize the smoke odor.
