    Hangover tips

I don't know where to place this and I think this is the closest sub-forum.

When partying you should have a glass of water after every drink. Eat ice too. Stay hydrated.

Stick to one type of drink. Don't drink beer, wine, white russians, and do shots all night long! Pick one type of drink - you'll be less sick in the morning. Wine really messes up most people and so does carbonation. If you can afford it, get top shelf liquor - it has less impurities than wells.

When you get home - take some Tylenol and drink more water and eat some toast with butter before you go to bed.

In the morning drink gatorade and chicken noodle soup. Try to get some more carbs in you. If you are throwing up, try making tea out of oregano or chamomille to settle the stomach.

I also recommend Pedia-Pops (the frozen popsicles they give to little kids) these will keep you from getting dehydrated.

Take note that whatever you do, do not mix aspirin or nsaids, they'll raise your blood pressure, I speak from experience.
    I am a woman, I know what I want , and I can get mad if I don't get it. :3

    Re: Hangover tips

I'd go along with everything you said there. Another good hangover cure is effervescent vitamin C tablets, dissolved in water. A friend who is a pharmacist says they are actually more effective in treating the symptoms of a hangover than Alka Seltzer or similar products which are traditionally used to treat hangovers.

Light drinks have less congeners than dark drinks, and it's the congeners that are responsible for the hangover. So go for white wine rather than red, and gin, vodka or Bacardi rather than red wine, whisky, or brandy.

    Re: Hangover tips

Nice tips! Though I'm sad to say I've learned some of these the hard way :S Especially the one about drinking different types of liquor at the same time!

For girls, always try to find out what's in the drink your drinking. Some drinks will not actually seem like they have any alcohol in it but chances are, you're going to be thinking otherwise in the morning.

Don't ever drink on an empty stomach. In my experience, this is just asking for a hangover.

If you can't prevent a hangover, at least try and be prepared for it. I already have most of the stuff katniss recommended you take if you do get a hangover as I used to be a pretty heavy drinker.

Katniss is right. Basically the symptoms of hangover are mostly due to the effects of dehydration on the brain, secondary to the alcohol's effects. So one thing to do, keep yourself from being dehydrated and rehydrate well!

I agree with everything you said except taking the Tylenol after you have been drinking. You are already pounding your liver with alcohol you shouldn't feed Tylenol to it as well. It's better to wait until the morning and take some Ibuprofen. I will say that the pedia-pops or pedia-light really do work, they are full of electrolytes and getting you feeling back to normal in no time!

Good tips. When I was drinking I always had a pint of water next to my beer. I drank a beer then a water, then a beer, etc. I never got a hangover. It is important to drink lots of water while drinking. If you follow those tips people will feel great the next morning.

Alcohol causes hangovers the next morning for two reasons: dehydration and low blood sugar. You have to stay hydrated before, during and after drinking as well as eat before you start. The main reason for this is that alcohol is an ACE inhibitor...one of the side effects of such a drug is diuresis...or the release of water from your body, as the alcohol is processed. This is why you have to pee every five minutes while you drink. Offset this with water: drink plenty of water before you start, drink water in between your alcoholic beverages and drink plenty of water before you head off to bed. Also...eat before you drink. This is so your body gets a change to process the food before the alcohol is introduced. Eating while you drink or after you have started or have finished is not as effective because your body will process the alcohol over the food and will not put the glucose into your bloodstream.

ok...just so you know. I tested my own theory last night thanks to my husband bringing home a very large bottle of Grey Goose vodka...lol. After drinking about half of the bottle, I woke up this morning a little thirsty, but otherwise hangover free...here is what I did.

I ate dinner approximately 3 hours before I began drinking...it was a big dinner, chock full of calories. We had Texas Roadhouse burgers and fries. We started drinking and kept a slow pace that allowed us to reap the benefit of the alcohol without becoming sloppy drunk and drank water in between shots of liquor. I drank a large glass of water before heading to bed and ate a hearty breakfast this morning. Still a little thirsty today, but otherwise fine.

Hangovers are not fun. Most of us have experienced a hangover and have sought out a remedy at one time or another. Depending on the severity of your hangover symptoms there are some things you can do immediately to improve the way you feel.
