I use citronella oil as an insect repellent and they are very effective and not to mention pleasant smelling too! We also have a neem tree planted in our yard (which they say is good for preventing dengue fever) and we also planted eucalyptus trees. So if you like plants like my parents, then surround your house with plants that have insect repellent properties!
